It’s All Your Choice. Own it!

Why We All Live the Life We Want (Yes, Really)

This might sound controversial, but hear me out:
I believe we’re all living the life we want.

I know—that can be a tough pill to swallow. I’m not talking about extreme situations or people facing unimaginable challenges. Of course, life can be unfair and circumstances can be incredibly difficult.

But I’m speaking to the average, everyday life. The one most of us live. And if you found this blog through TikTok, based on your algorithm—chances are, you’re doing okay. Not perfect, but okay.

Here’s my point:
We were all born with a certain “starter pack.” Some people got more, some less. But from a certain point—maybe age 16—we started making decisions.
And those decisions have brought us here.

Some people are happy with that. Some people aren’t. But I truly believe we shape our own reality—our own luck, happiness, and lifestyle. And even when life doesn’t turn out the way we imagined, we still have choices.

Let’s call it what it is:

  • If you go to a job you hate every day, that’s a choice.
  • If you don’t exercise but complain about your body, that’s a choice.
  • If you spend all your money on going out and then say you can’t afford a house deposit—that’s a choice, too.

And I’m not judging you. I’m not here to say you’re doing it wrong.
I’m just here to say: own your life. Be 100% okay with your choices—or make new ones.

It’s All About Self-Awareness

There’s a quote I love (I wish I remembered who said it):
“You can have everything, just not at the same time.”

That couldn’t be more true.

You need to decide what’s most important to you—and let go of everything else.

Here’s my personal example. I love to travel. That’s my number one priority. I want to see places I’ve never been, experience new cultures, and cross countries off my bucket list. That’s what makes me feel alive.

But yes, there’s a price to pay for that:

  • I don’t own a house—I rent.
  • I don’t have kids.
  • I don’t buy designer bags or expensive shoes.
  • I don’t get my nails done or go to fancy salons.
  • I often eat out at cheaper places, and I rarely go out for drinks.

And you know what? I’m totally okay with that.

Every time I buy a plane ticket, I feel excited. I feel like I’m investing in me.
Will it always be like this? Maybe not. Maybe one day I’ll want a house, or kids, or a different kind of stability. If that happens—I’ll pivot.

But for now, this is the life I choose.

You’re an Adult. You Can Redesign Everything.

We all grew up with beliefs, habits, and expectations that were handed to us. But now, as adults, we get to choose what we keep—and what we let go of.

At the end of the day, the only things you have to do are pay taxes and follow the law. The rest? It’s your decision.

You don’t have to follow traditions.
You don’t have to live like your parents did.
You don’t have to stay in a life that doesn’t feel like yours.

What’s Helped Me Most? Books.

If there’s one thing that’s consistently helped me grow, it’s reading—especially personal development books.

Go to Waterstones (or wherever you shop) and you’ll see: there’s a book for everything.

Here are a few that really shaped how I think:

I don’t read self-help books all the time, but I come back to them when I feel stuck or ready for a shift. They remind me that I can always level up—and that I’m in control.

Final Thoughts

The most important relationship you’ll ever have is the one you have with yourself.

So don’t disappoint yourself. Don’t live a life that doesn’t feel true to who you are.
Challenge your beliefs. Question your habits. Design your version of a good life.

Because you can’t have everything—but you can have what matters most to you.
